Free tea and biscuits from Samaritans

Come along to the Hive, every Tuesday and Thursday, from 12 - 2pm, for free tea, biscuits and to have a chat.

This is hosted by Samaritans, whose staff are on hand to speak about anything and everything, whether you're having a hard time with your wellbeing, or you just need a good rant about your coursework.

Extenuating Circumstances

During the course of your studies you may experience unforeseen exceptional circumstances that temporarily impair your ability to participate in your programme, submit your assessments or attend examinations.

Help with Extenuating Circumstances (EC) from your Students' Union.

If you are worried about the EC process throughout exams or you are not sure if you need them, you can speak with one of our independent academic advisors. Your Union advisors are independent from the University and can provide advice and guidance. If you are unsure of your circumstances being considered valid, the evidence you need, or if you'll get the outcome of an EC, we can help you. It is worth noting that we do not make any decisions on your EC and cannot guarantee an outcome, but have the experience to support you and guide you.

15 minute online EC appointments

Book in for a 15 minute EC online appointment to speak to a SU Advisor. Please note, you can only book seven days in advance and these are usually for students who need same, or next-day appointments. Appointments start on 13th May. You can also email: ussu.advice@surrey.ac.uk.

In-person drop in EC sessions

Come to one of our in-person drop in sessions. No booking is needed! Running every Tuesday and Thursday, from 1 - 3pm in the Hive. Starting from Tuesday 14 May until Thursday 30 May.

How we mark your work

The University has a 13-step process to ensure that your work is marked fairly and consistently. This applies to every piece of summative work that you submit. To help explain this process, we have created a short animation and an infographic so that you can see what happens at each step.
